The Speakers Bureau is a service sponsored by the Central Ohio STC chapter to improve Central Ohio schools' awareness of technical communication as a profession. Through the Speakers Bureau, STC members work with Central Ohio educators to integrate technical communication into educational curricula. Professional technical communicators travel to area schools where they speak to classes and participate in career days, science fairs, and other events. These speakers represent diverse companies and organizations, educational backgrounds, and areas of specialization within the technical communication field. Topics for discussion include, but are not limited to, the qualities and skills needed in the profession, areas of specialization within the field, descriptions of daily responsibilities, Ohio colleges and universities that offer technical communication programs, and technical communication resources. Speakers Bureau representatives also have numerous samples of technical communication products for students and their teachers to review.

The Speakers Bureau is seeking volunteers to speak to students at area high schools. We also welcome volunteers willing to help with the administrative tasks supporting this service, such as preparing mailings, contacting local English teachers and guidance counselors, and coordinating schedules for speaking appointments. If you are interested in any of these activities, please contact Ginny Claphan or Kathleen Stohrer for more information.
